“We’re so, so excited to bring you this week’s conversation with Brandon Kyle Goodman, an actor and producer who you probably know from the likes of ‘Modern Love’ (yes, he’s kissed Hot Priest) and ‘Feel the Beat’. But more recently, Brandon has been front and centre because of his viral videos on the topic of race, some of which have garnered millions of views. Brandon has been an incredibly instrumental person in our own anti-racism education, so we really wanted to speak to him now - 8 weeks after the murder of George Floyd and the start of the global movement that followed - about the concept of allyship fatigue, how to be an effective ally as opposed to just a ‘good’ one, what it’ll take to make real systemic change in Hollywood and beyond and how to keep this momentum going longterm.” LISTEN HERE
Brandon Kyle Goodman -- writer, actor, and accidental Instagram activist -- joins Brent, Eliot and H. Alan to talk about becoming the de facto authority on societal consciousness in the age of Black Lives Matter and why white people need to just SIT DOWN. Then, why is it harder to buy a home if you're LGBTQ? And in terms of "coming out online," the guys talk about their early digital footprints, from AOL chat rooms to Penis.com to Li'l Brent convincing his friends to look up gay porn "as a joke" ...on their computers, not his. Actor Brandon Kyle Goodman sits down with Cameron to discuss different lanes of activism, racism within the queer community, and equal representation in media vs. performative diversity.
We had the chance to talk to Brandon Kyle Goodman about his video that asks, “What shows are you binging?,” which addresses how we can “absorb racism” through the shows we watch and media we consume. An accomplished actor who’s appeared in a number of film and TV projects (including Plus One, Amazon’s Modern Love, and the recent Netflix original Feel The Beat), Goodman has an acute awareness of the subtle ways pop culture can shape our worldview. Notably, Goodman has also been in the writers’ room for the upcoming fourth and fifth seasons of Big Mouth, so he shared his feelings on what it means for a show to “do the work” by diversifying its voices and actually including them in the conversation. Our interview was conducted prior to the news that Jenny Slate would be stepping down as the voice of biracial teen Missy, but the decision speaks to Goodman’s point about how television shows should be more open to voices and perspectives from outside the white experience. This week, Ronna may have started the day in a mood, but it was nothing a little Carriage House Blend and the Lobsterman’s homemade banana bread couldn't handle. After some sweater talk and a quick lesson on how to pronounce "Ronna" in Hebrew, Brandon joins us to dish out advice on how to stay firm when your neighbor wants to break your quarantine and what to do when your tryst turns into a betrayal. Plus, a question from a long-time listener about how to talk about race.
